Supporting dog owners escaping domestic abuse

Support for your dog

Support for survivors of domestic abuse

As many refuges aren’t able to accept pets, people might feel unable to leave their home until they know there is somewhere safe for their pet too. Dogs Trust offers a solution by providing free and confidential foster care for an average of 6-9 months, enabling people to access refuge or emergency housing safe in the knowledge that their dog will be loved and cared for.

Become a dog foster carer for the Freedom Project

The service runs thanks to the support and commitment of volunteer foster carers who love and care for the dogs in their own homes. If you have experience caring for dogs, are at home most of the day and can commit to fostering for at least six months then we would love to hear from you.

Domestic abuse support services

If you work for a key service such a domestic abuse organisation or the police, Freedom Project can help ensure that the family pets will be safe too. Support workers can refer people directly to the Freedom Project, and we will be on hand to answer any questions you or they might have.
