Referring to the Freedom Project

Supporting survivors of domestic abuse

We work closely with domestic abuse services, and other key agencies, to deliver our Freedom Project across the UK. We want to support you in removing barriers for someone escaping domestic abuse, and ensure they can get to safety knowing their pet will be safe and loved until they can be reunited.

If you’re supporting someone fleeing domestic abuse, ask if they have any pets in the home and if they need help with temporary fostering. If pets can leave with their owners at the point of fleeing, this can avoid them being left with the perpetrator where they may be at risk.

Free

The project is completely free, and will cover the cost of all vet treatment, food, and any other bits they might need while in our care (toys, treats and comfy blankets etc).

Confidential

Dogs will be safe with us. We’ll never give client details to anyone, including the foster carer who’ll be looking after their pooch. We’ll also foster them a safe distance from where the owner is fleeing from.

Expert Team

We are highly experienced in supporting people and their pets fleeing domestic abuse. We work closely with specialist domestic abuse services, and we’ll be understanding of the situation.

Support

We know how difficult it can be for people to be away from their dog. So, we keep our clients up to date with regular updates and photos so they can see how their dog is getting on.

You can refer to our Freedom Project safe in the knowledge that we're a specialist service for survivors of domestic abuse. Our service is free, confidential and our female-only team have many years of experience supporting survivors and their pets.

We're a founding member of the Links Pet Fostering Group which means that we've signed up to service standards designed to ensure the safety and support of survivors and their pets.

We can also offer webinars to charities and organisations who support survivors of domestic abuse, covering the connection between pets and domestic abuse, as well as a more in-depth overview of the Freedom Project.
