Together, we can help dog owners when it matters most
Many refuges for survivors of domestic abuse can’t accommodate pets, so dog owners can be reluctant to get themselves to safety if it means leaving their pet behind.
We take that barrier away by providing a safe, loving foster home for the dog, so their owner can take the next step on their journey to freedom from domestic abuse. Our service is free, and we cover the cost of all food, toys, bedding and veterinary care while the dog stays with the foster carer.
Our team works closely with domestic abuse support services to ensure the person is supported with finding and settling in new accommodation, then we reunite them with their dog so they can continue their journey together.
Your generous support will help more people and dogs find their freedom from domestic abuse.
Since we launched in 2004, we have fostered more than 2,000 dogs.
Gemma’s story
Gemma experienced domestic abuse for three years, and her dog Dusty was abused too. Gemma felt there was no way she could leave Dusty behind. That’s when she heard about the Freedom service. We found a safe foster home for Dusty within 24 hours, and Gemma was able to find safety in a refuge.
Your support will help people and dogs find their freedom too. People like Gemma, and her dog Dusty.
